The word “technology” itself brings
to (my) mind advances that astonish; things that seem to be of paramount importance for the time and are beyond what’s
expected. Technology is, therefore, an ongoing process. It has no beginning, and it has no end. For the purposes of
education, today’s technology is as basic as the staple that’s binding your essay and as complex as the sequence
of ones and zeros used to make this website. And for another time and place,
perhaps the most advanced “technology in education” was the abacus or the hand-crank pencil sharpener.
This site takes a look at some of the technology
used in classrooms today. An emphasis is placed on the computers that are a growing
part of children’s educations, and, even more so, on the internet. The
internet, with all of its brilliance, has had some effects on the classroom, and on people in general, that are less-than-brilliant. We’ve tried to analyze both the positives and negatives of these effects. It’s up to you to decide how much good “technology in education”
is doing.
